There was no immediate response from the production company regarding the raids, PTI added. Lyca produced the box-office hit movies Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2. Searches were underway at around eight premises in Chennai after the central probe agency registered a money laundering case against the production house, NDTV reported. Lyca Productions was established by Subaskaran Allirajah in 2014. A subgroup of Lycamobile, the production studio has been involved in the production and distribution of films made in South India. According to the ED, the action against the accused entities came on the basis of an FIR registered by CBI against Karan A Chanana, his relatives, Amira Pure Foods Pvt. Ltd. and others under various sections of IPC, 1860 for committing fraud, criminal misappropriation, criminal breach of trust, cheating, etc. causing wrongful loss to the tune of approx--Rs. 1201.85 crore to the consortium of banks led by Canara Bank.

Under any of the references, if a case against Imran Khan is lodged and he is put to trial under any of the Acts, he may face life imprisonment or capital punishment. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan witnessed one of its worst violence, clashes and chaos on May 9 following former Prime Minister Imran Khan's arrest at the Islamabad High Court, which prompted his followers to vandalise and damage sensitive army installations across the country.
The violence that went on for at least 72 hours saw mob attacks on General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, Core Commander house in Lahore, Jinnah House in Lahore, Radio Pakistan's Peshawar office, and other government and state institution offices and buildings across the country. The chaos targeted at state institutions, and the anger among Imran Khan's supporters against the military has now been linked to the former premier's anti-military stance, open accusation and name-calling of senior serving military officials of being behind attempts of assassination on his life. The Pakistan Army has now decided to show zero tolerance against the elements behind these attacks, terming them as a blatant attempt to not only target the institution but also to create a division between the people and the army. During a special session of the Core Commanders Conference held at GHQ Rawalpindi, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir was given a comprehensive briefing about incidents of violence and mob attacks on 9th May onwards as commanders expressed their anguish over the condemnable incidents. The Core Commanders Conference mutually agreed to not show any restraint if such an attempt as that of 9th May is repeated in the future. It also decided to show zero tolerance against all culprits behind the attacks, which the armed forces termed as "foreign supported and internally instigated, promoted and provoked against military installations and public/private properties". The army, without naming Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its chief Imran Khan, has hinted towards arresting all of its supporters, instigated and provoked by him, which has led to the attacks against the military installations, and initiating trial against them under the anti-terrorism laws of the country. The army has also decided to initiate the Army Act and the Official Secret Act in some cases as well going forward. It claimed that it has irrefutable evidence to establish that the attacks were part of a pre-planned strategy, implemented immediately after Khan's arrest. "The forum was briefed that a well-coordinated arson plan involving desecration of Shuhada pictures, monuments, burning down of historical buildings and vandalism of military installations was executed to malign the institution and provoke it towards giving an impulsive reaction," the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. "These attacks and attempts were made to create distortions in this regard are absolutely futile," the ISPR added. It is a known fact that Imran Khan has been very vocal about naming and shaming the army chief as well as other senior serving army and intelligence officials. In his statement on May 9 before leaving for Islamabad from his Zaman Park residence in Lahore, he had lashed out at the military establishment yet again warning them of being ready for the consequences if any attempts to arrest him are made. Now, with the army geared up to not spare the narrative and respond to it with legal cases, Imran Khan's coming days may just be numbered and he may be booked and trialled under the same references. Under any of the references, if a case against Imran Khan is lodged and he is put to trial under any of the Acts, he may face life imprisonment or capital punishment. The new Parliament building complex is 64,500 square metre and is a part of the Central Vista project worth ₹20,000 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the new Parliament building, which is at the heart of Lutyens in Delhi, soon. It has been constructed as part of the Central Vista Redevelopment Project. The new Parliament building will be inaugurated end of the month, which is around the time the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will complete nine years in power, people familiar with the matter said.
Over a month ago, Prime Minister Modi went on a surprise visit to the building. With Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, Modi spent over an hour at the upcoming complex and inspected various works. The prime minister observed the faculties coming up at both Houses of Parliament and interacted with the construction workers and the officials, sources added. The PM laid the foundation stone of the new Parliament building in 2020. In September 2021, he visited the site of the new complex and interacted with the workers present there. As he laid the foundation stone, Modi said, “The need was felt for a new Parliament building for years. 21st century India needs a new Parliament complex. The old building fulfilled the needs of the country, the new Parliament building will fulfil the country’s aspirations.” The new Parliament building complex is 64,500 square metre and is a part of the Central Vista project worth ₹20,000 crore. The cost of the Parliament building project has been estimated at ₹971 crore. The building will be earthquake resistant and would involve 2,000 workers directly and 9,000 indirectly. The new parliament building will be having a capacity to house around 1,200 MPs. Siddaramaiah vs DK Shivakumar: Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal are currently holding talks on the Karnataka chief minister issue. New Delhi: Congress leader DK Shivakumar made it clear today that he would not back down in a tense rivalry with Siddaramaiah over the Karnataka chief minister's post after the party's big win in the state on Saturday. But he said he would not resort to "backstabbing or blackmail", regardless of the party's decision.
Siddaramaiah spent much of yesterday in Delhi, where he met with the Congress leadership amid reports that he was closer to the finish line than his younger colleague. “Let's wait and see. I don't know,” he told reporters cautiously, asked when there would be an announcement. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leaders Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal held talks on the Karnataka chief minister issue. Mr Kharge will later today meet both Mr Shivakumar and Mr Siddaramaiah. The party's leadership was yesterday briefed by a team of observers on the views of the newly elected Karnataka MLAs. The Congress held a secret vote on Sunday, the results of which have reportedly been presented to the party president, who will take the final decision. The party could announce the name of the next Karnataka Chief Minister in the coming 24 hours, sources said. The biggest challenge is to bring Mr Shivakumar on board. Mr Shivakumar arrived in Delhi this afternoon after canceling his visit last night at the last minute citing a stomach infection. “The party is my god...We have built this party, I am a part of it and I am not alone in this," he said before flying out of Bengaluru. "We have built this party (Congress), we have built this house. I am a part of it...A mother will give everything to her child," he added, indicating that he expected the party to reward him for his role in Congress's Karnataka victory. But he repeated that he would not rebel. "If the party wants, they can give me the responsibility... Ours is a united house, our number is 135. I don't want to divide anyone here. Whether they like me or not, I am a responsible man. I will not backstab and I will not blackmail," Mr Shivakumar asserted. In polls held last week, the Congress won a clear majority in Karnataka, finishing with 135 seats in the 224-member assembly. Its celebrations were, however, tempered with anxiety over the Siddaramaiah versus Shivakumar contest for the top job, which drags on for the third day without a solution. Mr Siddaramaiah, 75, is a former Chief Minister and Mr Shivakumar, 61, is the party's Karnataka chief. Both claim to have a majority of MLAs backing their claim to the chief minister's post. The Congress has a tough decision to make, with an eye on the long-term impact, especially on next year's national elections. In an exclusive interview with NDTV last evening, Mr Shivakumar said he expected his leadership to acknowledge who was behind the emphatic win in Karnataka. "Sonia Gandhi told me, 'I have confidence in you that you will deliver Karnataka'. I am sitting here, doing my regular responsibility. You should have the basic courtesy, a bit of gratitude. They should have the courtesy to acknowledge who is behind the win," the 61-year-old said. "I won't blackmail, that's not me. Don't perceive anything. I have my own presence of mind. I am not a child. I won't fall in a trap," Mr Shivakumar added. Responding to Mr Siddaramaiah's claim that he has the support of the MLAs, he said, "I wish him all the best." In the run-up to the election, the Congress was able to project a united front, even though the supporters of Mr Shivakumar and Mr Siddaramaiah often publicly clashed. While Mr Siddaramaiah is seen to be a leader with mass appeal and completed a full term in 2013-18, Mr Shivakumar is known for his strong organisational capabilities, and is considered resourceful and Congress' troubleshooter during tough times. Sources close to Mr Shivakumar, however, insist that Mr Siddaramaiah has “never been a party man and has never won any elections for the party”. A few Islamic outfits have accused the Tamil film 'Farhana' of having dialogues that are insulting to Muslim women and the hijab Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Tamil film 'Farhana', police force has been deployed outside the residence of actor Aishwarya Rajesh as the movie has stoked a controversy since its trailer came out. She plays the main role in the film and essays the character of a Muslim woman.
The film was released on May 12 and had landed in controversy as critics allege that it portrays Muslim community a particular way. A few Muslim groups, including the Indian National League (INL), even termed it "anti-Islamic". Directed by Nelson Venkatesan, the movie depicts the journey of the protagonist, Farhana, who becomes employed by a company offering phone sex chat services. Initially uneasy about her job, she gradually develops a connection with a caller who seeks companionship and conversation. Police protection was provided to Aishwarya Rajesh, fearing a controversy similar to that of 'The Kerala Story'. Notably, the actor had recently told India Today in an interview that she would have played the character irrespective of its religion. "Religion was never a topic to think. I would have played this character even it was a Hindu or Christian. The religion angle was not even a barrier for me," she had said. However, makers of the film recently issued a statement saying 'Farhana' is not against any particular religion. "Our films has spoke about religious harmony, social unity and love," the statement read. The film has been mired in controversy after a few Islamic outfits accused the film of having dialogues that are insulting to Muslim women and the hijab. A 24-year-old tribal woman was thrashed, garlanded with shoes, her head tonsured and was left to die in the jungle by her family for refusing to marry a man of her their choice. RANCHI: A 24-year-old tribal woman was thrashed, garlanded with shoes, her head tonsured and was left to die in the jungle by her family for refusing to marry a man of her their choice. The torture meted out to her was under the diktat issued by the Jogidih village Panchayat in Palamu. She was later rescued by the police from the Selari jungle of Tarhasi village and admitted to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital.
The woman’s parents had died eight years ago and she was living with her brother and two sisters. The marriage was fixed at Manika in Latehar by her elder sister who is already married. “They were forcing me to get married. And when I refused, they beat me, tonsured me, and dragged me into the jungle after parading me with a garland of shoes in the village,” said the woman. According to villagers, the woman was to get married on April 20 but the ‘baraat’ returned after she refused to do so. Under pressure, she ran off to her sister in Latehar and was later brought back to the village by her cousin brothers after 20 days. The villagers were under impression that the girl was in love with someone and hence was refusing to get married. “After her return, a Panchayat was called on Sunday. This time they were forcing her to tell her lover’s name, but she kept silent. Annoyed with her silence, the panchayat then issued the diktat,” told a local villager requesting anonymity. The girl then spent the night in the jungle under a ‘mahua’ tree and was spotted by the cattle grazers in the morning, he added. Police said that the girl has been admitted to the hospital for medical examination and process of FIR has started on the basis of the statement recorded by her family members. FIR, however, was not registered till late in the evening while this report was being filed. “A hunt for those involved has been started after identifying them,” said Gulshan Gaurav, office in charge of Patan police station. Some scar marks have also been found on the girl’s body including private parts, which is also being investigated, he added. ‘Multiplexes decided to stop screening due to lack of patronage, criticism, poor performance’ NEW DELHI: Denying the allegations of a de facto ban in Tamil Nadu with regards to the movie ‘The Kerala Story’ and terming them as baseless, Tamil Nadu Government has told the SC that the movie was released in 19 multiplexes in Tamil Nadu on 05.05.2023 and there is no order banning the screening of the film. “After the release of the movie, multiplex owners took the decision to stop its screening in view of the criticism it received, lack of well-known actors, poor performances, and poor audience response,” the affidavit adds.
It has also been stated in the affidavit that the state had taken all necessary steps to safeguard the freedom of speech and expression. The affidavit has been filed in the plea filed by makers of ‘The Kerala Story,’ Sunshine Pictures Private Limited and Vipul Amrutlal Shah, which, apart from challenging the Mamata Banerjee government’s decision to ban the screening of the film, had also sought for the protection of screening the film in Tamil Nadu, alleging that the movie is facing a shadow ban. The Supreme Court on Friday had sought responses from TN government. A bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud laid emphasis on the fact that it was the state’s duty to provide adequate security to filmgoers and not cite a security threat and force theatres into withdrawing the film. The bench also asked TN government to specify the measures taken to provide security for screening ‘The Kerala Story’ and posted the plea for Thursday. “Regarding TN, what is the state doing? It’s a public order situation. The state government cannot say that we’ll look the other way while theatres are being attacked, chairs being burnt,” CJI DY Chandrachud said. “We’re just saying give us an affidavit on what you’re (TN) is doing,” Justice PS Narasimha said to Advocate Amit Anand Tiwari appearing for the TN government, who said that there was no ban on the movie. Shah Rukh Khan said that his wife Gauri Khan dedicated herself to supporting him on his journey to becoming a superstar, and started her professional career only after she hit 40. Shah Rukh Khan accompanied his wife Gauri Khan at the launch event of her new coffee table book, My Life in Design. The book contains several pictures of the celebrity couple’s Mumbai mansion, Mannat. At the event, Shah Rukh spoke lovingly about his wife, whom he has known since they were both teenagers in New Delhi.
While interacting with the media at the Mumbai event, Shah Rukh said that in long-term relationships such as theirs, it is understandable for people to not appreciate each other’s talents. He thanked her for ‘playing her part’ in his journey to stardom, and said that during all this time, she would keep tinkering with interior design, even though she was dedicated to supporting him. When she decided to start her own business, Shah Rukh said that he offered to help her out with contacts, but she refused. “At 40 she started doing this. I told her, ‘Should I be helpful, I have some friends, we can talk to them’, and she said no. She started a small 10 feet by 20 feet shop somewhere in Lower Parel. And she worked it all out on her own, and continued doing what she does.” Shah Rukh said that Gauri is ‘the busiest person in the house’, and that he often asks her why she works so much. She tells him that her work ‘satisfies’ her, and Shah Rukh said that this is what everybody can learn from her, that following one’s dreams is possible at any stage in life. Shah Rukh and Gauri tied the knot in 1991, and they have three children — daughter Suhana, who is set to make her acting debut; older son Aryan, who is about to make his debut as a writer-director; and the 10-year-old AbRam. Shah Rukh made a grand comeback to starring roles this year with the blockbuster hit Pathaan, which eventually made more than Rs 1000 crore worldwide. He will next be seen in Jawan, and then in Dunki. Are you looking for the best home theatre system in Tamil Nadu? Rajan & Co provides the best solution for you.
